Laura Rienzi: My Lab in 2012 – GENERA Center Was Born

Laura Rienzi, Member of the Scientific Advisory Board and Scientific Director for Italy at IVI RMA GLOBAL, President of AIFe ETS, and Associate Professor at the Department of Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, shared on LinkedIn:

“My lab in 2012. GENERA center was born.

Many of you loved my lab in 1999. Here’s what came next.

  • In 1999, data were shared over the phone.
  • In 2012, every tube, dish and patient was tracked electronically at every step.
  • In 1999, we spent hours at the microscope.
  • In 2012, the time lapse incubators started to observe our embryos all the way to the blastocyst stage. Single blastocyst transfers were performed, and vitrification was finally introduced.

Moreover, air quality, sterility, and a controlled atmosphere in the lab were guaranteed through high-efficiency particulate air filtration systems and continuous positive pressure gradients.

Finally, tri-gas incubators were the norm allowing us to culture the embryos under hypoxic conditions, mimicking natural environments more accurately.

Same passion. Same dedication. Same hard work. Just a lot more technology.

That young embryologist? By 2012 she was leading a fantastic team of scientists.”
