Diana Kayal: Treating Your Body Without Seeing the Rest of You Is Only Half the Job
Diana Kayal, Reproductive Endocrinologist and IVF Specialist at FertiClinic PRC Fertility Centre, shared on LinkedIn:
“I get asked a lot why my appointments take so long. Some patients expect to come in, hand me their results, hear a plan and leave. I understand that, but the results only show me part of what’s going on.
They don’t tell me what you’ve been through, and all of that comes into the room with you. It affects how you sleep, how you cope with the injections, how you hear the news on transfer day, and sometimes whether you feel able to keep going at all.
So yes, I ask questions that have nothing to do with hormone levels. I want to know what you’re carrying, because treating your body without seeing the rest of you is only half the job.
If this topic speaks to you, join me and medical anthropologist Anna Figiel, Ph.D. on 26 November for our complimentary webinar on fertility and trauma. We’ll talk about what infertility does beyond the diagnosis and what good care should look like.
