Ahmed Atik: Successful Placenta Accreta Surgery Without Interventional Radiology
Ahmed Atik, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today marked a significant professional milestone: my first Elective placenta accreta case managed successfully without interventional radiology intervention at UHNM Maternity Theatre. While this will still be a very useful tool in selected cases.
This excellent outcome was made possible through accurate diagnosis, high-quality imaging, weeks of careful preparation, detailed surgical planning, and strong multidisciplinary teamwork.
The shared commitment, collaboration, and dedication of everyone involved were key to delivering safe, effective care while also avoiding unnecessary intervention and achieving meaningful cost savings.
I am sincerely grateful to every member of the team who contributed to the care of this complex case.
We will continue to reflect, learn, innovate, and improve as we move forward, with the aim of providing even better care for this challenging group of patients.”
