Sir Gavin Williamson Addressing Inequalities in Access to NHS-Funded IVF – The Fertility Alliance
The Fertility Alliance shared on LinkedIn:
“We are delighted to see Sir Gavin Williamson MP continuing to raise the unacceptable inequalities in access to NHS-funded IVF.
As Sir Gavin highlights, the need for IVF in the UK has doubled over the past 20 years, yet the treatment someone can access still depends on their postcode.
In Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, patients may be offered just one treatment attempt, which does not even meet the NICE-recommended standard for a full IVF cycle.
Meanwhile, in parts of London, patients can be offered three full cycles.
This simply isn’t fair.
Where you live should not determine your chance of becoming a parent.
We are grateful to Sir Gavin for continuing to champion this issue in Parliament and for recognising the devastating impact that the IVF postcode lottery has on patients and families.
NICE guidance should be followed wherever you live.”
