UK Guidelines for the Medical and Laboratory Procurement and Use of Sperm, Egg and Embryo Donors! – RBMO
Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“These new guidelines replace the previous (2019) UK guidelines for the medical and laboratory screening of sperm, egg and embryo donors.
The new guidelines were developed by a joint working group composed of representatives from the The Association of Reproductive and Clinical Scientists, the British Fertility Society, the The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and the British HIV Association (BHIVA), with review and comments from their respective memberships.
The primary objectives of these guidelines are:
- to guide the provision of factual, scientific and clinical information to donors, recipients and, where relevant, offspring
- to minimize the risk to recipients of donor sperm, eggs and embryos of acquiring an infection from the donor(s)
- to minimize the risk of any donor-conceived offspring being born with an infection or acquiring a serious heritable disorder from the donor(s)
- to ensure that where individuals or couples wish to use known donation, or where couples wish to donate embryos subsequent to their treatment, this is risk assessed and aligned with the principles of these guidelines.
Published open access, the guidance can be read in full for free from our June issue, now.”
