Julie Morgan: ESHRE Speaker Reflections, the Importance of Community in Reproductive Medicine
Julie Morgan, Chair, Education Committee at The European Fertility Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Apparently presenting at ESHRE counts as a workout…
My WHOOP decided my 20-minute invited lecture was exercise. Judging by how I felt standing on stage, I’m not entirely surprised!
I’ve worked in fertility care for nearly 40 years, but standing up to present to a room full of peers still terrifies me. Running a busy IVF service never fazed me, but put me in front of hundreds of people and I still get exactly the same nerves.
The funny thing is that afterwards everyone told me how calm and confident I looked. It’s a good reminder that what we feel on the inside isn’t always what other people see.
That’s why I’m so grateful to everyone who was there.
Colleagues I’ve worked with over the years. Friends. My PhD supervisor. People I’d only met the night before. Even people I barely knew took the time to come and listen, ask thoughtful questions and stay afterwards to continue the conversation.
Knowing so many of you were in the audience made more difference than you’ll probably ever realise.
Thank you for the encouragement, the messages, the conversations and the thoughtful discussions. They reminded me that one of the very best things about our profession isn’t just the science or the technology—it’s the people.
I’m incredibly grateful.”
