Christopher Robinson: Myometrial Marking to Improve Suturing of the Uterine Incision at Cesarean Delivery
Christopher Robinson, Associate Professor Maternal Fetal Medicine at University of South Carolina, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“AJOG Surgeon’s Corner: Myometrial marking to improve suturing of the uterine incision at cesarean delivery – An example of our marking on the uterine myometrium, demonstrating the difference between the upper and lower sides of the incisional wound
A broad horizontal band is marked on the uterine myometrium in the area where a uterine incision is planned (A). An incision is then made along the middle of this marking (B). The white dotted line indicates the site in the muscle layer where an incision had been made. With each incision, the upper and lower sides of the wound open up differently. White arrows indicate wound edge movement (C). Compared to the upper side, the lower side is flaccid and expands downwards. Double-headed arrows indicate the thickness of each wound cross-section (D).”
