Ahmed Khalil: Honored with SOFT UK Outstanding Clinical Care Award 2026
Ahmed Khalil, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I was deeply honoured to attend the SOFT UK Family Day this weekend and to receive the SOFT UK Outstanding Clinical Care Award 2026.
What made this recognition especially meaningful was that the nomination came from a family I had the privilege of supporting during one of the most difficult journeys any parent can face.
Spending time with families affected by Trisomy 13 and 18 was a powerful reminder that, beyond investigations, diagnoses, and clinical pathways, the most important part of our role in healthcare is human connection — listening, honesty, compassion, and helping families feel supported during moments of great uncertainty and vulnerability.
One of the most humbling parts of obstetrics is that families often remember not only what was said, but how they were made to feel during some of the hardest conversations of their lives.
I would like to sincerely thank SOFT UK for the incredible work they do in supporting families and raising awareness about Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes. The warmth, courage, and resilience of the families I met were truly inspiring.
I am also grateful to all the colleagues and multidisciplinary teams I work with every day — sonographers, midwives, nurses, neonatal teams, genetic teams, palliative care teams, and many others — because compassionate care is always a collective effort.
As medicine continues to evolve through innovation, leadership, and technology, moments like this are an important reminder that kindness, dignity, and empathy remain at the heart of truly good healthcare.”
