Fabian Conejo: Why Accurate Lupus Anticoagulant Testing Can Save Lives
Fabian Conejo, Service Head PEC (Peru and Ecuador Countries) at Roche, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Associated with Lupus in about 50% of cases, LA signals the presence of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), a severe complication linked to dangerous thrombotic events.
Accurately detecting LA is vital. An incorrect lab result can lead to dangerous consequences, such as unnecessary long-term anticoagulation or a completely missed APS diagnosis in high-risk patients.
However, detecting LA is a uniquely demanding challenge that involves a complex sequential testing procedure and numerous analytical pitfalls.
In our latest article, global thrombosis authority Prof. Vittorio Pengo shares essential insights on mastering this diagnostic puzzle. He breaks down why the mandatory 3-step testing procedure (screening, mixing, and confirmatory) cannot be safely abbreviated and explains why dedicated human expertise in the coagulation lab is critical.
Read the full interview to piece together the complexities of LA testing.”
