Barb Collura: 3 Key Takeaways From My May Travels
Barb Collura, Founder and Principal at Vital Voices Consulting LLC, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I had the privilege and honor of attending several meetings and events in May, where I had conversations and heard from speakers on topics that have continued to stick with me. All the things I heard will impact how I move forward, how I help my clients, and how I continue to show up each day for this community.
First, where did I go?
- New England Fertility Society (NEFS) Annual Meeting
- Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA) Spring Meeting
- SEEDS Spring Conference
- Women’s Health Advocates Capitol Hill Day
What are my key takeaways?
- Clinics and staff – and all those impacted by the IVF process – are feeling the strain of overworked staff and meeting patient care expectations, while also striving for the highest care possible. This push and pull was evident everywhere I went.
- In the IVF care space, there are a lot of things to focus on outside of clinical practice, including federal and state policy issues, clinic consolidation, and the growing impact of PE backed clinics. Everyone is talking about this.
- People want to get involved in the policy work, but they don’t know how, don’t know if being ‘political’ is good for business, and aren’t sure if they can show up as their authentic self and risk alienating clients and partners. And for those of you that asked for my advice, I see you and applaud your courage!
There is a lot we need to ‘solve for’ in our space. Many of the conversations started at these meetings have continued – and will continue – for some time.
What about you? Has something you heard recently at a work conference stayed with you in a profound way?”
