Ying Cheong: Regulating a Changing Fertility Sector at ESHRE 2026
Ying Cheong, Professor of Reproductive Medicine at the University of Southampton, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It was a privilege to speak today at the ESHRE 2026 Annual Meeting as part of the HFEA session: ‘Past, Present, and Future: Regulating a Changing Fertility Sector.’
I had the opportunity to discuss the present state of UK fertility regulation, reflecting on how the sector continues to evolve alongside rapid scientific advances, changing patient expectations, and emerging technologies.
The discussion highlighted that effective regulation is not about slowing innovation, it is about ensuring that innovation remains safe, evidence-based, ethical, and centred on patients. As reproductive medicine advances, maintaining public trust while supporting responsible innovation will be more important than ever.
Thank you to my fellow speakers Julia Chain (Chair, HFEA), Peter Thompson (Chief Executive, HFEA) and Professor Peter Rugg-Gunn and to ESHRE and the HFEA for facilitating such an important conversation.
It was also wonderful to engage with colleagues from across the world on the future direction of fertility care and reproductive science.”
