The Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Disease in Perinatal Period – RCOG
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This week is Group B Strep Awareness Week. As part of our ongoing work to improve care and outcomes for women and babies, our draft update to Green-top Guideline No. 36: The Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Disease in Pregnancy, Labour, Neonatal and Early Infant Life is now open for consultation.
Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is the most common cause of serious, often preventable infection in newborn babies in the UK. Around 20-40% of women carry GBS naturally, usually without symptoms.
The draft guidance covers how GBS infection in newborn babies, including early-onset GBS, can be prevented, and reflects current UK recommendations. It is intended for healthcare professionals and women who are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or have recently had a baby.
Gathering input from patients, healthcare professionals and the public is a vital part of developing clinical guidance and patient information resources. We welcome all feedback and will consider it as fully as possible.
The draft will be open for comments until midnight (UK time) on Monday 13 July 2026 and you can share your feedback here.”
