Heghine Khachatryan: Understanding the Diverse Mechanisms of Anti-ADAMTS13 Antibodies in Immune TTP

Heghine Khachatryan, Editor in Chief at Hemostasis Today, shared a post by Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) on LinkedIn:

“This study reinforces an important concept in modern TTP research: not all anti-ADAMTS13 antibodies behave identically. Characterizing their distinct inhibitory mechanisms may improve our understanding of disease heterogeneity, guide biomarker development, and ultimately support more personalized therapeutic strategies for patients with immune TTP. Congratulations to the authors on this valuable contribution.”

Quoting Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis’s (JTH) post:

“Human monoclonal and polyclonal anti-ADAMTS13 antibodies in immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: variable mechanisms of inhibition

Antibodies against ADAMTS13 cause immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, but how they disable the enzyme varies. This work shows inhibition depends on the reaction conditions and differs between patients, and that antigen depletion is probably not the main mechanism in most cases. The findings suggest current diagnostic assays may underestimate how often iTTP truly occurs.
