Devyanshi Dixit: Pelvic Floor Health – The Women’s Health Conversation We Need

“Pelvic Floor Health – The Women’s Health Conversation We Need
Pelvic floor problems are common, but suffering in silence shouldn’t be.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues that support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs. When these structures are weakened, overactive, or injured, everyday life can be affected.
What Can Pelvic Floor Problems Look Like?
- Urinary Leakage – Leakage with coughing, exercise, sneezing, or urgency.
- Bowel Symptoms – Constipation, difficulty emptying, or fecal incontinence.
- Sexual Health Changes – Pain during intercourse or pelvic discomfort.
- Pregnancy and Postpartum Changes – Pregnancy and childbirth can place significant demands on pelvic floor structures.
- Pelvic Organ Prolapse – A feeling of pressure, heaviness, or a bulge can occur when pelvic support is weakened.
Why Are We Talking About It More?
Modern pelvic floor care is moving beyond simply treating symptoms.
It increasingly involves:
- Pelvic floor physiotherapy and rehabilitation
- Digital health and remote monitoring
- Minimally invasive and surgical approaches
- Personalized assessment and treatment
- Preventive care across the lifespan
The Important Message
Pelvic floor symptoms are common, but they are not something women simply have to accept as part of aging or motherhood.
Early assessment can help identify problems and connect women with appropriate care.
From pregnancy and postpartum recovery to menopause and healthy aging, pelvic floor health deserves a place in mainstream women’s healthcare conversations.
These advances in urogynecology, pelvic floor disorders, minimally invasive gynecologic care, women’s wellness, and preventive health will contribute to the scientific discussions at the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026).
