Devyanshi Dixit: Is ”Healthy Weight’ the Same as “Healthy Fertility”?
Devyanshi Dixit, Program Manager at CLS Event and Publication, shared on LinkedIn:
”Is ‘Healthy Weight’ the Same as ‘Healthy Fertility’?
We often hear that maintaining a ‘healthy weight’ is important for fertility.
But fertility cannot be measured by the number on a weighing scale.
Body composition and metabolic health can influence reproductive function-but they are only part of a much bigger picture.
What Really Influences Fertility?
- Metabolic Health
Insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction can affect ovulation and hormonal balance, particularly in conditions such as PCOS. - Ovarian Function
Ovarian reserve and egg quality are influenced by multiple biological factors, including reproductive age. - Reproductive Health
Conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, tubal disease, and hormonal disorders can affect fertility regardless of body weight. - Genetics and Medical History
Individual biology and previous medical conditions can play an important role. - Male Factor
Fertility is not solely a woman’s health issue. Sperm quality and male reproductive health also matter.
The Bigger Message
Healthy fertility ≠ a specific body size.
A person can have a higher or lower body weight and still have good reproductive health-or experience fertility challenges.
The goal should be healthy nutrition, metabolic wellbeing, appropriate physical activity, and individualized reproductive care, rather than focusing solely on weight.
As fertility medicine becomes more personalized, understanding the relationship between metabolic health, nutrition, reproductive endocrinology, and fertility is increasingly important.
The 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026) brings together experts exploring these evolving areas of reproductive medicine and women’s healthcare.

Fertility is complex. A number on a scale can never tell the whole story.”
