David Huang: The Largest Real-World Study of GLP-1s in Women with PCOS
David Huang, Clinical Innovation Director at Voy, shared on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society:
”Voy just published the largest real-world study of GLP-1s in women with PCOS.
It’s published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society with Prof Naveed Sattar and exists because three worlds are coming together at once in healthcare:
- Care provision is becoming consumer-led and digital-first,
- Pharmaceutical innovation has made obesity treatable at scale, representing the greatest step-change in therapeutics in over 80 years, and
- Reliable, trusted health information is getting harder to find with AI content and 10-second soundbites
Because we’re passionate about leading at the intersection of all three and obsessed with the truth, we went to the data and reviewed the treatment journeys of 54,000 women on tirzepatide to see what’s happening in the real world.
Women with PMOS (formerly PCOS) lost less weight than those without – a blunter response and consistent with other conditions characterised by insulin insensitivity. But what matters is women who engaged with the wraparound programme – lifestyle coaching, tracking, behavioural support – lost 3.4 percentage points more than those who didn’t. That’s over 20% more weight loss in 10 months, and equivalent to the results seen in women without PMOS.
Overall, 9 in 10 women lost 10% of their body weight by month 10.
If you’re prescribing GLP-1s, are there other response patterns you’re observing? We’d love to see how our data can answer these hard questions.
Congrats, Naveed and team!”
