“Are We Doing Enough to Prevent Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers where prevention, early detection, and timely treatment can make a profound difference.
Yet a powerful question remains:
If we know many of the risks – why are women still being diagnosed too late?
- Prevention Starts Before Cancer
Persistent infection with high-risk HPV is the major cause of cervical cancer. HPV vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of HPV-related disease.
- Screening Is Changing
HPV testing, cervical cytology, and improved screening strategies can identify high-risk changes before invasive cancer develops.
- Risk-Based Care
Not every woman has the same risk. Age, HPV status, screening history, immune status, and other factors can influence appropriate follow-up.
- Technology Can Help Close Gaps
Self-sampling, digital health tools, AI-assisted screening, and improved diagnostic pathways are being explored to make prevention more accessible.
- But Technology Alone Isn’t Enough
A highly effective prevention strategy still needs:
Vaccination + Screening + Follow-up + Timely Treatment + Awareness
The challenge is not simply discovering better tools.
It is making sure women can actually access them.
The future of cervical cancer prevention may depend as much on equity and education as it does on medical innovation.
At the 12th Global Summit on Gynecology, Fertility and Women’s Health (GFWH 2026), healthcare professionals and researchers will explore emerging approaches to preventive gynecology, women’s health, screening, reproductive medicine, and healthcare innovation.
