Lucy Froese: Your Emotional Wellbeing Matters, Whatever Happens Next
Lucy Froese, Fertility and IVF Coach, shared on LinkedIn:
“I was in such a dark place with infertility that my acupuncturist recommended I see a fertility coach.
I’d been trying to get pregnant for years.
Month after month of hoping, waiting, and disappointment.
I was doing everything I could think of to improve our chances.
But emotionally, I was falling apart.
I felt desperate. Exhausted. Completely consumed by trying to get pregnant.
I’d always been someone who could find a solution to a problem.
But I couldn’t fix this.
And somewhere along the way, I’d lost the person I used to be.
My acupuncturist could see how low I’d become.
She suggested I speak to a fertility coach.
And that decision changed so much for me.
For the first time, I had somewhere to take all the fear, sadness, and frustration I’d been carrying.
I began to feel more like myself again.
Not because I was suddenly pregnant.
But because I was finally getting support for what infertility was doing to me emotionally.
And now, years later, I see that same emotional toll in the women and couples I support.
One client came to me after experiencing three miscarriages.
She was carrying so much grief and fear that it was affecting her relationship and intimacy with her partner.
After just a few sessions, she told me she felt like a completely different person.
She’d started reconnecting with her partner and finding parts of herself she’d lost along the way.
And just this week, another client told me how much better she was coping with everything.
She’s navigating a complicated fertility journey, with different medical professionals involved and so much uncertainty around the next steps.
None of those challenges had disappeared.
But she recognised that a few months ago, she would have found it all so much harder to manage.
And that’s what I want people to understand about the emotional toll of infertility.
It’s not just about the disappointment of not getting pregnant.
It’s about what happens to you while you’re trying.
Your confidence.
Your relationships.
Your sense of self.
Your ability to enjoy the life you’re living.
Today, National Fertility Awareness Week’s Fertility Unfiltered campaign is focusing on The Emotional Toll.
And I wish more people understood that emotional support isn’t something you should only seek when you can no longer cope.
You don’t have to wait until you’re in a place of despair, like I was.
You deserve support now, while you’re navigating the uncertainty, the waiting and everything in between.
Because your emotional wellbeing matters, whatever happens next.”
