Anita Guru: My IVF Journey Series, Part 2 of 5
Anita Guru, Founder of The Mind Coach and Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck, University of London, shared on LinkedIn:
“My IVF Journey Series: 2 of 5
Round 2: Ectopic pregnancy that nearly killed me.
We started this round so positive. We had such a different and more hopeful experience.
By this round of IVF, I’d had three surgeries and didn’t comprehend how much the IVF medication was causing my endometriosis to grow.
The joy of seeing a positive pregnancy test is just pure magical.
But things went wrong so quickly.
Being told I still had pregnancy hormone in my blood actually gave me hope that it could be a viable pregnancy.
I wish I’d know what an ectopic pregnancy was before trying to conceive. It was such a traumatic experience.
Before the emergency surgery, I was asked about attending a cremation of the embryo and I was dumbfounded. A conversation I didn’t expect.
An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.
It was in my left and it was removed.
Ectopic pregnancies occur in roughly 1 in 80 to 1 in 90 pregnancies.
Following the ectopic, I developed PTSD but didn’t know it. I associated PTSD with wars and large scale conflicts, not an ectopic pregnancy
This year’s theme for National Fertility Awareness Week is ‘Unfiltered’, and I’m aiming to share the sides of infertility and IVF that are not spoken about or seen.
Stay tuned for part 3 of 5 tomorrow in this series, documenting my 5 rounds of IVF.
Please share with anyone who might need this.
If you any support you can reach out to the babyloss charity Tommy’s or Sands – baby loss charity or call Samaritans for free any time on 116 123.”
