Asma Khalil: Celebrating Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Muslim Awards

Asma Khalil, Professor of Maternal Fetal Medicine at St. George’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A deeply humbling moment. On Thursday evening, I was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Noor Inayat Khan Muslim Woman of the Year category at the British Muslim Awards 2026.

To receive recognition that bears her name makes this particularly meaningful. Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan, GC, was an SOE agent in the Second World War. She was the first female wireless operator sent from Britain into occupied France. Betrayed and executed at Dachau in 1944, she was posthumously awarded the George Cross for her extraordinary courage.

She showed remarkable bravery and conviction in conditions few of us can imagine, and her example still resonates today.

To have my work in maternal and fetal medicine recognised under her name is something I’m genuinely proud of. None of it happens alone, and I’m grateful every day for the patients who trust us, the colleagues who challenge and inspire me, and the trainees carrying this field forward.

If you have a few minutes, her story is worth your time

Thank you to the British Muslim Awards, and warm congratulations to all those recognised this year.”
