Luciana Chamie: Could Pelvic Varicose Veins Be the Hidden Cause of Chronic Pelvic Pain?
Luciana Chamie, Postdoctoral Researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Could pelvic varicose veins be the hidden cause of chronic pelvic pain?
Chronic pelvic pain affects millions of women, yet pelvic venous disorders remain underrecognized and frequently overlooked. Our new review article, now available, highlights the essential role of TVUS in evaluating pelvic venous disease. Beyond identifying pelvic varices, US provides a dynamic assessment of venous reflux and pelvic venous insufficiency, helping clinicians reach a more accurate diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment. Recognizing pelvic venous disease is an important step toward improving the care of women living with chronic pelvic pain. It is also an essential differential diagnosis of endometriosis, as both conditions may present with similar symptoms but require different management strategies.”
