Evelyn Ndinda: Prolactin as a Key Biomarker in Female Infertility

Evelyn Ndinda, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at The Mpshah Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When investigating female infertility, one crucial biomarker we test for is prolactin.

Naturally, prolactin is the hormone responsible for milk production in breastfeeding mothers. However, for a variety of reasons, these levels can become elevated in women who are not pregnant or nursing. This directly impacts the menstrual cycle and ovulation.

Because the pituitary gland (which manufactures prolactin) sits in the brain, the symptoms of high prolactin can show up in unexpected ways.

Understanding your hormones is the first step to reclaiming your reproductive health.”
