Reema Sircar: Fertility Preservation Is Empowering Only With Real Numbers
Reema Sircar, IVF Consultant at Indira IVF Group, shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘Fertility preservation is genuinely empowering – but only if a woman is choosing on real numbers, not a brochure.’
That was the thread I kept pulling on- at the panel at Voice of Healthcare yesterday, on the Ethics and future of fertility preservation.
As egg freezing becomes one of the fastest-growing categories in Indian fertility care, We sat with the questions the field doesn’t always ask out aloud:
- Where does genuine patient empowerment end and market creation begin?
- Should a patient be told the full statistical picture — including the chance her frozen eggs may never result in a baby — before she proceeds?
On the second, my answer was unconditional: ‘Yes… A consent that leaves out the real chance of a live birth is not an informed consent — It’s a sales receipt.’
My throughline was simple: honesty about real, age-stratified success rates should be the floor for everyone — not a differentiator for a few.
The day telling a woman the truth about her odds stops costing a clinic the patient, this field’s growth will be driven by women who understand exactly what they’re choosing.
A genuine word for Voice of Healthcare – Kudos to get IVF clinicians- standalone clinics as well as chains, insurers, ART policymakers, legal experts and CEOs, all on one platform – for the larger good of the fraternity.
That mix is why the room had real depth, and why the disagreement in it was worth having.”
