Khaled Abu Ali: What Is The One 1 Thing Your IVF Software Makes Harder Than It Should Be?
Khaled Abu Ali, IVF Unit Director at American Hospital Dubai, shared on LinkedIn:
“Most IVF software is designed by people who have never worked at the bench.
You can tell.
- Screens built around billing instead of the embryology workflow.
- Cryo records that don’t match how a lab actually tracks specimens.
- Local requirements, like UAE marriage certificate documentation, added as an afterthought.
In late 2024 I decided to stop working around these gaps and started building our own system, IVERA, one module at a time.
It went live in our clinic in March 2026.
What I learned along the way:
- The best features came from small daily frustrations, not big plans.
- Embryologists and nurses will tell you exactly what they need if you ask them at the bench, not in a meeting.
- And a system is only as good as what the team actually records in it.
If you work in an IVF lab: what is the one thing your software makes harder than it should be?”
