“I received the email below, and it brought tears to my eyes.
‘Dear Dr. George,
We wanted to write to you personally to express just how grateful we are for everything you have done for us throughout our IVF journey.
From the very beginning, you gave us confidence and reassurance at a time when there was naturally a great deal of uncertainty.
We always felt that we were receiving the very highest standard of treatment, but what stood out just as much was the genuine care, kindness and compassion you showed us throughout the process.
Your willingness to be there whenever we needed advice or reassurance meant more to us than you probably realise.
At no point did we feel like we were simply another patient going through a process. We genuinely felt that you cared about our journey, understood how much it meant to us, and were doing everything possible to give us the very best chance of success.
To now be able to say that we are pregnant is something we are incredibly grateful for.
We know there is still a journey ahead of us and we remain cautiously hopeful, but reaching this point means more to us than we can easily put into words.
We would also like you to know just how wonderful your nursing team has been. Every nurse who looked after us was exceptional.
They knew us by name, remembered the details of our treatment and consistently followed up with us. That continuity of care made what could so easily have felt like a clinical and daunting experience feel incredibly personal, warm and supportive.
There are certain people you meet during your life who you will always remember because, at a particular moment, they made a genuine difference to the course of your life.
For us, you will always be one of those people.
Whatever happens from here, you helped us reach a point that for a long time we could only hope for, and we will never forget the part you played in getting us here.
Thank you, Dr George, for your expertise, your patience and your reassurance, but above all, for the humanity and genuine care you have shown us throughout this journey.
It has meant an enormous amount to both of us.
We hope that one day we will have the opportunity to introduce you to the little person you helped us bring into the world.
