Mark Langley: A Better Way to Identify Developing Cryogenic Tank Failures
Mark Langley, CEO/CTO of DeTech LLC, shared on LinkedIn:
“Back in 2018, I was working for a company called Alert Scientific in East Hartford, CT. I have spent more than 25 years in the laboratory service industry. I have serviced laboratory equipment of all types – specializing in cryogenic storage and facility alarms.
Sadly, that year was a wake-up call for the ART/IVF industry, when two cryogenic tanks tragically failed, impacting the dreams of many families. I remember it well it made international news!
Since that time, the fertility industry has been looking for a better way to identify developing tank failures – and, more importantly, to recognize them earlier.
We are honored to have presented this study at the recent American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in Baltimore at our booth and now seeing our recently published study featured in Fertility News.
Published in the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics (JARG), our research documents something significant: measurable external thermal changes associated with vacuum compromise can be detected at its inception, before conventional indicators such as temperature, liquid level, weight, or other downstream effects reveal a developing problem.
This represents an important step for ART/ IVF toward changing how we understand and evaluate cryogenic storage integrity.
The objective has never been to displace or discredit existing technologies. It is to advance our understanding of failure progression and establish the value of identifying the earliest physical evidence of vacuum deterioration – before the consequences become apparent.
We are grateful to our co-authors, Christine Allen and Matthew C. Hudnall, and everyone who contributed to this research. We have more studies in progress – be sure to follow our page to stay up to date on our latest research!
Most importantly, we hope these peer-reviewed findings receive thoughtful consideration throughout the industry and encourage further evaluation, validation, and adoption of earlier detection approaches.
The science is published. The opportunity to advance cryogenic storage awareness is now in the hands of the industry.
Thank you to Fertility News for bringing this important research to a wider audience.”
