NHS England Has Published New Minimum Standards for Patient Communication – RCOG
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG shared a post by NHS England on LinkedIn:
“Today, NHS England has published new minimum standards for NHS services to improve patients’ experiences of care. The standards set out what patients should expect at referral, what they can expect while they are on the waiting list and the information they can expect to receive about their appointment.
This represents an important first step to improving communication with those on elective waiting lists. The RCOG’s own research in 2024 found only one in 10 women rated communication about their gynaecology care as good, with many left unclear how long they would wait. Too many women told us they found interacting with the health system exhausting, left to manage the progress of their own care largely alone. That’s why we urged the government to urgently prioritise improving communication with women waiting for gynaecology care and treatment, including giving them clarity on expected waiting times.
We now need consistent implementation of these standards across every system and local area. Crucially, we also need a clear government commitment to tackling long gynaecology waiting lists, so that the more than 554,000 women waiting can access the care they need sooner, not just wait for it more comfortably.”
Quoting NHS England’s post:
“We’ve published a new set of minimum standards for NHS services to improve patients’ experiences of care.
These minimum standards set out what you should expect when you or someone you are supporting are referred for planned NHS care in England.”
