Alison Campbell: Time-Lapse Versus PGT? Wrong Question
Alison Campbell, Chief Scientific Officer at Care Fertility, shared a post on LinkedIn by Reproductive BioMedicine Online about a paper she co-authored with colleagues:
“It’s out!
Time-lapse versus PGT? Wrong question.
They’re different technologies offering complementary insights and workflow.
Thanks to Walid Maalouf, Laura Girardi, Rachel Smith, Jennifer Patrick, Tom Bamford, Darren Griffin, Care Fertility, Reach Fertility.”
Quoting Reproductive BioMedicine Online’s post:
This new article reviews the current understanding of the combined use of time-lapse imaging (TLI) and PGT. Highlighting their clinical advantages, limitations, and future potential in optimising outcomes and workflow in ART.
The authors discuss the potential synergistic strategies of PGT-A and TLI deployed by several IVF laboratories to support aspects of their clinical and scientific practices that include:
- More embryos recorded as 2PN
- More flexible workflow for biopsy scheduling
- Research and knowledge building
- Improved setting of patient expectations and support for treatment decisions
- Prioritization of embryos for biopsy and utilization
- Optimization of stage/timing of blastocyst biopsy
- Improved precision of cell selection for biopsy procedure
- Improved monitoring post-biopsy
- Prioritization of euploid embryos for transfer
- Improved monitoring post-warming
The conclusions of the review herald a future the authors say should bring better technological integration, alongside standardisation and automation of technologies to further improve information for patients, outcome prediction, decision-making and, importantly, clinical outcomes.
