Emma Nash et al. Examine Psychosocial Challenges in Donor Sperm Care – RBMO
Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMO) shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Emma Nash et al. published in RBMO:
“This new review by Emma Nash and colleagues across several hospitals in London, investigates the psychosocial impact of being a sperm donor recipient. The team investigated the attitudes, treatment experiences and disclosure decisions among recipients of donor sperm, and explored cross-border reproductive care (CBRC) for donor sperm treatment.
The findings presented in this work may be used as a framework upon which individualised counselling and psychosocial support can be provided throughout treatment for patients, ultimately leading to improved experiences and better psychological outcomes for both recipients and offspring.
The review may also be used to inform policy with the aim of regulating the sperm donation process internationally thus increasing the quality and safety of care provided worldwide. The authors say that international guidelines which help standardise law regarding sperm donation may also facilitate more patients being able to access care in their home country, preventing them from the vulnerabilities they face when accessing cross-border reproductive care.
The full review from our May issue can be read for free, ahead of press, now.”
