Valeriy Lennartts: China Unveils World’s First Humanoid Pregnancy Robot, Redefining Reproduction
Valeriy Lennartts, Owner of the Company inparadise.net, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“China is pushing the frontiers of reproductive technology with the development of the world’s first humanoid pregnancy robot. Led by Dr. Zhang Qifeng at Nanyang Technological University, the project combines an artificial womb with robotics to carry a fetus for ten months and give birth, offering new hope to infertile couples.
The artificial womb uses nutrient-rich amniotic fluid to sustain growth. In 2017, similar technology successfully nurtured a premature lamb, suggesting potential for human application. By replicating the conditions of natural pregnancy, this breakthrough could address infertility challenges and declining birth rates in China and beyond.
With an expected cost below 100,000 yuan ($14,000), the robot could soon move from concept to reality. While it promises opportunity for many, it also raises profound ethical debates about reproduction, parenthood, and the limits of biotechnology.
