Gregory Zimet: JAMA Study of 130,000 Pregnancies Finds Zero Congenital Risks from First-Trimester COVID-19 Vaccination
Gregory Zimet, Research Consultant and Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Clément Bernard et al. published in JAMA Network:
“In this study, just published in JAMA Network Open, over 130,000 infants exposed to at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine during the 1st trimester of pregnancy were compared to nearly 400,000 non-exposed infants. The finding: ZERO congenital risks were found associated with COVID-19 vaccine exposure during the first trimester. The authors conclude, ‘In this cohort study of pregnancies exposed to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the first trimester, exposure was not associated with an increased risk of any MCMs, overall, by organ group, or by individual MCM, supporting the safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in early pregnancy.’ In other words, more clear evidence of mRNA COVID-19 vaccination safety during pregnancy.”
