Advancing Workplace Rights with Paid Reproductive Health Leave – PLRG

Pregnancy Loss Research Group (PLRG) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today as part of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Women’s Conference proceedings, the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation brought forward a motion calling for statutory paid reproductive health leave.

Now an ICTU Women’s Conference resolution, , which passed with huge support, it responds directly to the findings of the Government’s 2024 PLACES report on workplace supports during early pregnancy loss. In line with that report, INTO is calling for:

  • A statutory right to paid leave for all pre‑viability pregnancy losses, regardless of gestational stage or the reason for the loss.
  • Guaranteed paid leave for workers undergoing fertility treatment, including IVF cycles, medical procedures, and associated recovery time.
  • Paid maternity leave for those accessing surrogacy.
  • A commitment from Government departments to introduce this leave without delay, ensuring it applies to all employees and their partners.
