Diane Amedo: Revolutionary Egg Rejuvenation Technique
Diane Amedo, Senior Clinical Embryologist, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“An amazing reproductive breakthrough!
A major barrier in reproductive medicine has always been the age-related decline of egg quality.
New research published this week in The Guardian highlights a potential solution: Egg Rejuvenation via Protein Microinjection.
The Key Takeaway
Scientists from Ovo Labs have identified that as eggs age, they lose a protein called Shugoshin 1. This causes chromosomes to ‘fray apart,’ leading to the genetic errors that cause IVF failure and miscarriages.
By supplementing eggs with this protein, researchers reduced chromosomal abnormalities from 53% to 29%.
What does this mean for our clients?
- Efficiency: More viable embryos per cycle.
- Success: Higher chances of a healthy pregnancy for women of advanced maternal age.
- Innovation: A shift from ‘egg donation’ being the only option to ‘egg restoration’ being a possibility.
It’s exciting to see we are entering a new era of reproductive care in the IVF industry.
What are your thoughts on this advancement?”
